Benign Prostatic Enlargement Treatment, Including UroLift®

As men get older, their prostate often enlarges, pressing on and blocking the urethra and causing bothersome urinary symptoms. This condition, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), affects over 40% of men in their 50s and over 70% in their 60s. Although it is not dangerous, BPH can greatly impact your quality of life. Our urologists offer medical and surgical options to treat BPH, including minimally invasive treatment with the UroLift® System. In fact, Dr. Seth Capello has earned Center of Excellence designation for achieving a higher level of training and experience with UroLift. This treatment provides rapid relief and recovery from BPH symptoms. UroLift has demonstrated significant improvement in quality of life—greater than that reported for patients treated with medications. In addition, UroLift has been shown to have fewer side effects than many other BPH treatments.

Prostate Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment

We screen for prostate cancer using digital rectal examination and the prostate specific antigen (PSA) blood test. Our patients also have access to a powerful tool in the early detection of prostate cancer—a 3 Tesla (3T) MRI that makes it easier to find and biopsy small cancer cells. For patients who are diagnosed with prostate cancer, we offer advanced treatment options, including robotic surgery using the DaVinci Surgical System, to remove the prostate. As members of the multidisciplinary Saratoga Hospital Medical Group, we work closely with our colleagues in radiation oncology and medical oncology to coordinate your care.

Erectile Dysfunction Treatment

Many men are uncomfortable talking with their doctors about sexual concerns, including difficulties with erections (erectile dysfunction or ED). ED can be a sign of health problems, including heart disease, clogged blood vessels, diabetes, and other serious conditions. It’s important to let your healthcare provider know if you’re having trouble getting or keeping an erection so we can identify and address any underlying health problems. At Saratoga Hospital Medical Group – Urology, we offer many options—including medications, sexual therapy, and penile injections—to help men achieve erections that otherwise would not be possible.

Kidney Stone Treatment & Management

Kidney stones are small pebble-like objects that can form when you have high levels of certain minerals in your urine. These stones can cause excruciating pain, especially as they travel through the urinary tract. Treatment depends on the size of the stone and whether it’s causing a blockage. Our urologists are highly skilled in performing surgery and other procedures to remove kidney, ureteral, and bladder stones. Two types of lithotripsy procedures—shock wave and laser lithotripsy—can break the stones into smaller pieces so they can be passed during urination. Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) uses a small incision and scope to remove problematic large kidney stones. Our team also works with patients to prevent and manage kidney stone disease through diet, lifestyle, and medication if necessary.
