Breast surgery can be performed by breast surgeons, general surgeons, or plastic surgeons. Breast surgery is generally performed for one of the following reasons:
- To diagnose, treat or prevent diseases of the breast
- To reconstruct the breast after surgery for treatment or prevention
- To improve the cosmetic appearance of the breast or symmetry between the breasts
Dr. Kennedy and her team review the surgical treatment options with patients, and help direct the development of the entire care plan.
Our breast care provider team includes nurse navigators, radiologists, a fellowship trained breast surgeon, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, plastic surgeons, physical therapists, an oncology social worker, and dietitians.
Although care is delivered by a diverse team of specialists, the nurse navigators and the Saratoga Hospital Center for Breast Care staff coordinate and streamline the process so that each individual patient is provided with the specialized, supportive care and attention they deserve.
“We partner with patients, making sure they understand all their choices and options. I always want to know what’s important to my patients and their families.”

An image-guided needle biopsy is a highly accurate alternative to a surgical breast biopsy. This procedure is done by a radiologist, using local anesthesia to numb the area while small pieces of tissue are obtained through a needle. The tissue samples are sent to pathology for analysis.
